Summer can be a time of leisure, but for many Bears, it's a time to catch up or get ahead on their degree plans and make room for internships, study abroad or even a minor or certification. Summer of Discovery offers both current and incoming students the chance to do just that. Through Summer of Discovery, students can attend in-person and online courses to advance toward their academic goals. Courses are discounted from regular tuition, and students receive greater discounts as the number of classes taken increases.

"There are so many benefits for students when it comes to Summer of Discovery," Associate Director of Student Initiatives at the Center for Academic Success and Engagement Carroll Crowson said. "The discounted rate, the opportunity to get ahead on classes, the flexibility of all the online options, even if students are looking to add a minor or certificate to their degree—there are so many reasons students choose to be a part of Summer of Discovery and we're thankful to be able to offer the option."

Baylor consistently looks for ways to make class offerings more accessible to students, and Summer of Discovery is a key initiative to meet that goal.

"We really have so many online options that are helpful for students who want to get some credits done in the summer, but need the flexibility of where they are when they take them," Crowson said. "We've got students all over the country taking advantage of these summer classes."

Most in-person classes meet daily, while online classes vary between set meeting times  for synchronous classes and combinations of self-paced reading and lectures with class meeting times for discussion and live interactions with faculty. Regardless of the class type, students can still expect Baylor's signature top-tier academics, with classes taught by Baylor faculty and the chance to form relationships with other Baylor students.

Summer of Discovery courses are available across multiple summer sessions. Current students may choose to attend as many of the summer sessions as they'd like. Incoming students may select courses in Summer 1 and Summer 2 sessions. Summer Semester dates for 2023 include:

  • May Minimester (May 15-June 1)
  • Summer 1 (June 1-July 7)
  • Summer 2 (July 10-Aug. 11)
