Celebrating Baylor Commencement 2

More than 3,000 graduates from ten of the University’s colleges and schools will walk the stage at four Commencement ceremonies on Friday and Saturday, May 13 and 14, 2022, at the Ferrell Center. More than 700 of these graduates will receive their master’s or doctoral degrees.

Some of those walking the stage this weekend are graduates from the Class of 2020 and the Class of 2021. Graduates whose own Commencement ceremonies were interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic have been welcomed to return to campus to enjoy the experience of crossing the graduation stage to celebrate this well-deserved milestone with friends, family and loved ones.

Presiding over the ceremonies will be Baylor President Linda A. Livingstone, Ph.D., assisted by Nancy Brickhouse, Ph.D., Provost. The bearer of the Saint John’s Bible will be Jeffry Archer, dean of University Libraries. Leading the brass ensemble in musical arrangements will be J. Eric Wilson, DMA, professor in the School of Music.

At least one Baylor family is celebrating multi-generational graduates this weekend. Jorge Vielledent Sr. and Jorge Vielledent Jr. – father and son – will walk across the stage together to receive M.B.A.s, while Alexa, the youngest Vielledent, will graduate with her B.S. in Medical Humanities.

May Commencement ceremonies also have returned to the Ferrell Center after an 18-month hiatus during the coronavirus pandemic. During the first year of the pandemic, ceremonies were held virtually. In Spring 2021, Baylor held its first commencement ceremonies outdoors at McLane Stadium to allow for social distancing.

Baylor will live stream the ceremonies on the Commencement website. For information about the ceremonies and graduation events, please visit www.baylor.edu/commencement.

The Commencement ceremony for George W. Truett Theological Seminary will be held Friday, May 13, at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Waco. This spring’s ceremony will recognize 35 graduates, including two whose degrees were conferred in 2020. The Truett Seminary Class of 2022 boasts degree recipients from as far away as Rwanda, Zimbabwe, China and Zambia. President Livingstone will preside over the Truett Commencement ceremony as well, and will have the unique honor of presenting her daughter, Shelby, with her Master of Divinity.

A Commencement ceremony for Baylor Law School was held at the conclusion of their spring quarter, on April 30, 2022. A recording of the Law School commencement event is available here.
