Celebrating Baylor’s Birthday!

January 25, 2022

As the oldest continually operating university in Texas, Baylor University turns 177 years old this year. The Baylor Family will celebrate the University’s birthday with a special Dr Pepper Hour on Tuesday, Feb. 1, from 3-4 p.m. in Barfield Drawing Room.

On Feb. 1, 1845, Republic of Texas President Anson Jones signed the Act of Congress that officially established Baylor University. Originally located in Independence, Texas, Baylor moved to Waco in 1886 to join with Waco University. Baylor has flourished in its Central Texas home and continues to build upon its foundation of Christian commitment and academic excellence.

The special Dr Pepper Hour birthday festivities will include:

  • Green and Gold Cupcakes served alongside the traditional Dr Pepper floats
  • Photo opportunities with fun birthday props
  • A visit from the University’s President Linda A. Livingstone, Ph.D., and First Gent Brad Livingstone

Baylor’s Louise Herrington School of Nursing, located in Dallas, will also serve cupcakes on its campus as a part of the birthday celebration.
