The High School Sports Sales Championship is an innovative competition series designed for students in grades 8-12 who are interested in the field of sports business. Presented by Baylor University's Sports Strategy & Sales (S3) Center and sponsored by professional sports organizations like the Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs, San Jose Sharks, Detroit Pistons and the Phoenix Suns and Mercury, this competition offers an exciting opportunity for young minds to explore the world of sports sales in collegiate and professional sports.

Top-ranked students from the virtual first round advance to in-person regional championships in one of five professional sports venues: American Airlines Center in Dallas, Little Caesar’s Arena in Detroit, Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, SAP Center in San Jose and the Footprint Center in Phoenix. To participate, students need to purchase a ticket, which serves as their registration.

The competition format is designed to simulate real-world scenarios in sports sales. Each student seller will respond to a series of questions, mirroring the interactions and challenges faced by professionals in the field. What sets this competition apart is the use of Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC) analysis, a cutting-edge tool that assesses how well students answer questions in a professional manner. Baylor University's S3 program employs LIWC to evaluate students' responses, providing valuable insights into their performance.

The High School Sports Sales Championship consists of two rounds, with participants receiving points and rankings after each round. The virtual round is conducted online, with the top performing students advancing to their regional professional sports hosts. The regional sites will provide an unprecedented opportunity prior to a regular season competition, allowing students to give their best elevator pitch to be evaluated by sports sales professionals from the host professional sports organization and Baylor University.

The overall winner will be determined by the total number of points earned from both rounds. Additionally, there is a team aspect to this competition, with the winning school being determined by the average score of their top three participants.

The rewards are enticing, as the winning student and their teacher from the winning school will receive a BirdieBox filled with sports merchandise from their favorite team, courtesy of Baylor's Sports Strategy & Sales (S3) Center. Additionally, top students can receive exclusive invitations to Baylor University.

The High School Sports Sales Championship offers a unique and valuable experience for young students interested in the sports business world. It provides a platform to develop their skills, gain exposure to professional sales techniques and potentially shape their future careers in the exciting field of sports sales.
