Employee Assistance Program and MDLIVE Offer Support for Baylor Faculty and Staff

April 24, 2020
During this time of stress and uncertainty due to COVID-19, it is understandable to be dealing with feelings of stress, anxiety, depression and more. As a reminder that support and resources are available, Baylor University provides full-time faculty and staff — and their dependent family members — with an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and telehealth coverage through MDLIVE to encourage and support their holistic wellbeing.

“Both EAP and MDLIVE are extremely valuable resources offered. We encourage any employees and their family members who may benefit from EAP or MDLIVE to take advantage of those programs,” said Randall Brown, manager of benefits and wellbeing for Baylor Human Resources. “The wellbeing of faculty, staff and their families is a priority for the University. The resources available through MDLIVE and EAP provide options to support physical, spiritual, emotional and professional wellbeing.”

EAP

The EAP offers free and confidential resources, assessments, counseling, referrals and follow-up services to employees to support their personal and professional lives through ComPsych, an outside vendor and the world’s largest provider of employee assistance programs. Employees first register through the EAP and then have confidential access to a broad range of resources and materials.

The program includes five face-to-face sessions per family member per issue with a local counselor for stress, depression and family concerns among other things. Additionally, EAP members have unlimited telephone access to speak with an EAP Member Advocate who can provide consultation, resources, an action plan and information to help with concerns.

Other EAP features provide resources on family issues, like child and elderly care; legal concerns, including attorney consultations and discounts for services; and financial planning and consultation. Available online resources include a library of thousands of articles on helpful topics, tools and calculators, informational videos and search options for lawyers, child care, discount programs and more.

EAP resources and services may be accessed by phone or online.

Appointments through MDLIVE can be made once an online account has been set up. If any concerns for COVID-19 are present during a medical assessment, the MDLIVE physician will help guide the appropriate level of care. Mental Health First Aid Seminar
11 a.m. on April 30, 2020

In addition to EAP and MDLIVE, Baylor Wellbeing has partnered with Cigna to offer a one-hour Mental Health First Aid seminar for faculty and staff. Through Webex, participants will learn how to recognize and support individuals who are experiencing a mental health crisis or problem.

“We are all experiencing change right now. Basic mental health first aid skills will help us support our friends, family members and co-workers to help connect them with the right type of care as quickly as possible,” said Brown.

Registration for the Mental Health First Aid seminar can be found through the Baylor Wellbeing website, baylor.edu/hr/wellbeing.
