Hispanic Heritage Month

Started in 1969 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period, Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity to celebrate the histories, cultures and contributions of those whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
With a growing population of Hispanic and Latino Americans in Texas and at Baylor, this rich heritage is evident across our cities and on our campus. The University joins with the City of Waco to recognize national Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15, 2022) and the theme Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation. Through special events and activities designed to provide a better understanding and appreciation of others, our community is strengthened by celebrations of our diversity.
