Since you’ve been away for the summer, we’ve made tons of progress on our extraordinary new “front door” to the University – the Mark and Paula Hurd Welcome Center. The building is already open for you to explore, and even though we are still finalizing some of the finishing touches, don’t let that stop you from stopping by and taking a look.

  • Hurd Center hours will be Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturday openings this fall will be limited. The Hurd Center will be closed on Sundays until Sept. 17, when hours will be 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Students are welcome to use the seating in Carlton Hall or on one of the overlooks to study or connect with friends.

  • The Varsity Coffee and Soda, now serving Peet’s Coffee and more, will be open into the evening hours. Also open is the fully stocked Spirit Shop, which has the latest Baylor gear.

Here are a few other things to keep in mind about The Hurd:

  • The parking lots adjacent to and behind the Hurd Center are reserved for Visitors, Events, and Service Vehicles. Other cars will be ticketed if they are parked in these reserved lots. Students are strongly encouraged to park in the Dutton Garage or take the short walk over to the Hurd Center.

  • The Hurd Center will officially open on Football Saturdays as part of Family Weekend, Sept. 16. The building will be closed for the Texas State and Utah games at the beginning of the season.

  • If you need meeting or event space, the Hurd Center will become available for student meetings, events and activities on a LIMITED basis after the Sept. 8 dedication and ribbon cutting. Availability will increase as the semester progresses. To request space, you should continue to work through CONNECT and student activities.

Finally, remember Friday, Sept. 8 is HOWDY at the Hurd, presented by Pi Beta Phi and Baylor University. This students-only event will feature FREE food trucks, line dancing and more, concluding with a FREE concert with country music star Bailey Zimmerman and a spectacular drone show over campus. It all starts at 7 p.m. on the Hurd Center lawn.

We can’t wait to see you at The Hurd this fall!
